Frequently Asked Questions

What is Croquet?

Referred to as a Mallet Sport, Croquet is a game where players use a mallet to hit balls through a series of hoops embedded in the lawn, or Court. The objective is to navigate the hoops in the correct sequence.

 

Can I come and try croquet to see if I like it?

Yes, we offer 'Come and Try' sessions where you can experience croquet before committing to membership. We welcome players of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned players. Check our website or contact us by email << link to go here.

Is coaching available?

Yes, coaching is available for all players. We have three qualified coaches who can help you improve your skills and understanding of the game.

What equipment do I need to play croquet?

All equipment is provided. The Club can provide a mallet for you to play with until you are ready to buy your own.

When are the Playing Times?

Regular Club Golf Croquet sessions are held on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday mornings at 10:00am (9:30am during DST). There is often a session for more novice players on Tuesday afternoon (2:00pm) and a Twilight Session on Sunday afternoons at 2:30pm (3:30pm during DST).

​How long is a game?

A game usually lasts between 30 – 60 minutes but can be longer or shorter depending on the skill mix of players.

 

Are there any dress requirements?

Yes. Flat-soled shoes must be worn at all times and we recommend wearing comfortable casual clothing (shorts or trousers). For competitions SHCC uses a yellow shirt / sweater / jacket, worn with white or navy trousers / pants / shorts.

How do I join Southern Highlands Croquet Club? 

You get four free games, during which time you will meet other players. You can complete the SHCC Application Form on our Membership Page.

 

Are there any membership fees?

Yes, there is an annual membership fee that helps cover the cost of equipment, lawn maintenance and events. See Membership page.

 

Are Competitions held?

Yes, we hold various competitions through the year. Members are encouraged to participate and compete in these events. Information available at the Club.

 

What are the club's rules and etiquette? 

SHCC follows standard international croquet rules, and we encourage good sportsmanship and respect for all players. SHCC has a Constitution and a Playing Policy document to which members are directed. See Membership page
