How to play
Croquet is played on a lawn which measures 35 yards by 28 yards (32m x 25.6m) for a full sized court.
Six hoops are laid out on the court and each player uses a mallet to strike a ball with the aim of running a hoop in a specific order and direction.
It is sometimes described as a combination of chess and snooker.
Each game is played with either 2 players (singles) or 4 players (doubles) and 4 coloured balls are in play at any one time.
The game involves both skill in hitting the ball straight, judging the distance and tactics.
Croquet is a game that can be played equally well by men and women and is one of the few games suitable for people in their senior years. A game usually lasts between 30 – 60 minutes but can be longer or shorter depending on the skill mix of players.
Most players at the Southern Highlands Croquet Club play 2 or 3 games in a half day playing session.
